Interim Assistant Nurse Manager, Utilization Review/Discharge Planning

Job Description:

Healthcare Executive Placements, Inc. (HCEPInc) is seeking an Interim Assistant Nurse Manager, Utilization Review/Discharge Planning for a W2 Contract position based in Oakland, CA.
 

Schedule: Day, Monday through Friday, 5 8's, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm 
Assignment Duration: 13 Weeks 
Compensation: 
This position offers a daily rate of $660 to $710 which equates to $3,300 to $3,550 per week (based on a 5-day workweek) 
Per Diems: Lodging: $145 per day and Meals & Incidentals: $92 per day 
Per diems are paid daily, 7 days a week, totaling $1,659 per week 
Total Weekly Compensation (Daily Rate + Per Diems): Between $4,959 to $5,209 per week

Summary:


Supports in overseeing the daily operations of the utilization review and discharge planning functions within the Care Management Department. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, promotes quality care transitions, and assists with resource management. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate timely and effective discharge planning and appropriate utilization of health care services.


Essential Functions:


Assist in the supervision and coordination of the Utilization Review (UR) and Discharge Planning (DP) teams.

Ensure timely and accurate utilization reviews and documentation in compliance with regulatory, payer, and institutional requirements.

Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other team members to ensure safe and effective patient discharge planning.

Monitor performance metrics and participate in quality improvement initiatives related to UR/DP.

Provide guidance and coaching to nursing staff involved in care transitions and case reviews.

Participate in staff development, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.

Serve as a liaison between clinical departments and case management regarding appropriate resource utilization.

Support staff scheduling, workflow management, and coverage planning.

Assist with audits, appeals, and reporting functions.

Act as a clinical resource and support evidence-based decision-making in utilization management and care coordination.


Qualifications:


Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelor of Arts in a healthcare-related field required. Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

Minimum of 3-4 years of relevant clinical nursing experience, preferably in case management, discharge planning, or utilization review.

At least 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience in a healthcare or hospital setting.
